How can AI understand us, if we don't fully understand ourselves?

Meet the Founders solving for AI Alignment and building in the open

The question sounds interesting if you flip it the other way too: “How can AI understand us, if we don't fully understand ourselves?”

That’s what we talk about in this podcast, and we talk about our approach to solving that problem.

Join us in the exciting prelude to Epistemic Me's full launch. While our GitHub repository will open to contributors in ~one week, we're thrilled to introduce our 'Meet The Founders’ series through our newsletter and podcast.

This series offers a sneak peek into the minds behind Epistemic Me, and open source philosophical toolkit & SDK made to quantify subjectivity in human belief systems.

We believe solving the AI alignment problem comes from thinking about the first principles of knowledge, perception, and beliefs.

Welcome to Epistemic Me—a revolutionary approach to deep personalization aimed at transforming how we understand ourselves and, ultimately, how technology understands us.

Why Epistemic Me?

The inspiration behind Epistemic Me stems from an inherent need for tools that align artificial intelligence with human values.

Jonathan started exploring profound philosophical questions from a young age, pondering the nature of reality and self-identity.

This curiosity is a core part of Epistemic Me's foundation: to build a framework that interprets human beliefs and worldviews.

Deen's experience during the pandemic, coupled with his venture into Eastern meditation practices, reinforced the notion that understanding one's beliefs can lead to profound personal growth.

And my own experiences dealing with mental health issues in my family, and expanding my worldviews of what family means led me to therapy (8 years and counting) and questioning a lot of limiting beliefs.

Building Towards the Future

Epistemic Me aims to be an operating system that supports applications requiring a unique understanding of users.

We picture a world where we are successful in five to ten years: we envision every app that requires personalized value delivery to the user (uh—every app) will use this in the future.

Our open-source model ensures that contributors from diverse backgrounds can aid in developing a tool that evolves with its users—offering unmatched insights into user beliefs and worldviews.

Open Source and Ethical AI

The decision to make Epistemic Me open source is driven by the need for transparency and integrity. Building in the open ensures that our intentions remain pure and aligned with ethical practices. Deen shared how AI models like ChatGPT eerily predict our preferences without revealing their underlying beliefs about us, highlighting the need for user transparency and control.

Looking Forward: The Role of Community

We're excited to launch Epistemic Me as an open-source project, inviting contributors to help shape a tool that will redefine personal understanding and AI interaction.

If you’re a founder, entrepreneur, researcher, scientist, or builder of the future, and any advocates for leveraging technology toward shared understanding for a better future.

We need to build a community of people who can provide a deeper insight into human cognition and empathy, with foundational shared values.
